Associate Medical Director

Position Summary: The Associate Medical Director (AMD) serves as a supervising physician for Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP). The Associate Medical Director, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), provides clinical oversight to: Family Planning and Prenatal Services and delineates the responsibilities related to each program. The Associate Medical Director participates in PPHP's Risk Quality Management Committee and provides clinical guidance to the Risk & Quality Management programs to establish and assure quality of care, and regulatory compliance according to the standards and guidelines established by PPHP, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), NYS Department of Health (DOH), and Title X. The AMD provides direct patient care services. With the Director, Clinical Training, as lead trainer, the AMD provides clinical supervision and training for clinicians. The AMD is expected to foster community outreach and linkages and to support new patient care initiatives as appropriate for PPHP. Essential Functions: Serving on the Patient Care Review Committee and the Infection Control Committee, and Risk Quality Management Committee, the Associate Medical Director provides direction of all medical activities at all PPHP health centers to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to high-quality, evidence-based clinical practices. Provides clinical leadership for the revision and implementation of PPHP's clinical policies, protocols and procedures in accordance with PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines, the New York State Department of Health, Title X, and any other relevant regulatory body. In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and other key patient services management staff, participates in the planning and evaluation of PPHP's health services and programs. Provides direct patient care services in the following areas on a scheduled basis: prenatal care, family planning and medication abortion services. If qualified will provide surgical abortion, colposcopy, cryotherapy, LEEP and ambulatory gynecology. Serves as the first- line physician resource on problem and emergency care for PPHP patients and ensures 24/7 emergency coverage via use of an off-hours call service system. With the Director, Clinical Training and the CMO, the Associate Medical Director provides the training and professional education for clinical staff, which may include training advanced practice clinicians in sonography, medication abortion, miscarriage management, prenatal, IUC insertion and removal, Nexplanon insertion and removal, colposcopy, cryotherapy, LEEP, or other skills. Provides physician leadership for PPHP's Risk Quality Management (RQM) Program. Duties include, reviewing complications data on a regular basis, preparing and reviewing occurrence reports, implementing corrective actions and systems improvements, leading root cause analyses, conducting chart audits and individual case conferences, reporting on RQM activities to the Board of Directors, and other duties as appropriate. Serves as liaison to the hospitals providing back-up services to PPHP for all matters related to the referral, transfer, and care of PPHP's patients. Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, Americans Disability Act (ADA), and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA. Performs other duties as assigned by Chief Medical Officer. Qualifications:Experience, Education and Licensure Education Related Qualifications1. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) with specialty in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or another specialty with appropriate training and expertise in reproductive health care. 2. License to practice medicine in New York State. 3. Board eligible or Board certified in specialty area. Experience-Related Requirements1. At least three (3) years of related and/or applicable experience, including experience in both clinical practice and supervision. Demonstrated experience and excellence as a physician leader, clinical supervisor, and medical educator.
